Casa De Papa

Nestled into the backdrop of Avenido de Mayo near the Congress building, Casa De Papa hosts a unique atmosphere that caters not only to Israeli travelers, but anyone who is looking for a great time. This place definitely has a reputation, and when you arrive you will quickly find out why travelers keep coming back for more. The Israeli owners have created a fun and exciting ambiance that is perfect for young travelers. With a newly added second floor, and what seems like weekly upgrades, there's plenty of room and several different options for your traveling needs. Ranging from 2 person suites to 6-8 bedroom dorms, you can find your own level of comfort.

When you arrive to 1460 Avenida de Mayo, look for the signature Hebrew writing or simply buzz up to the fourth floor. Once you arrive inside you will be greeted by the friendly staff; on most days you'll also get a chance to meet at least one of the two Israeli owners who are very knowledgeable of Argentina and Buenos Aires. Reception is available 24 hours a day for your convenience. Ask for traveling information, a fresh towel, or try a snack or a drink from the wide variety of treats available at the counter. Casa de Papa has also recently opened a restaurant on the second floor that serves up Argentine favorites from 12pm to 12am. Breakfast is also included between 9-11am, hosting one of the best breakfasts I've seen at a hostel. Forget the usual bread, jam and cereal; Casa de Papa dishes out eggs, a traditional Israeli salad, toast, jam, butter, and coffee!

The bottom floor is generally livelier at night as the people come downstairs to socialize, have a few drinks (mixed up at reception), and prepare for a long Buenos Aires night. Ask reception for deals on club tickets, which are available nearly every night. From Crobar to Museum, Lost, Asia de Cuba, and more, the hostel hosts deals from all the hottest night spots in Buenos Aires. Another advantage to staying here is that you will have access to the Red Buenos Aires Travel Agency, which is also run by the owners. Come by reception Monday through Friday for help booking bus tickets and flights. They can also book skydiving trips, tango shows (including a free tango lesson), Spanish lessons, futbol games, and more.

Known for its exciting activities and liveliness, Casa de Papa doesn't disappoint with its facilities as well. The fourth floor is brand new, and if you can snag a room here you'll be even more impressed (but don't worry, the second floor has just as much character and hosts the reception area and restaurant as well). Each common room (one on each floor) has a television with cable, a DVD player, and a Playstation. With several video games, over a hundred DVDs, board games, and cards, there's no way you'll ever get bored. Some of the private rooms also come equipped with TVs and DVD players if you feel like having your own space to enjoy a movie. The kitchen on the fourth floor is available for use, and there's space for all your cooking needs. Each floor also has a balcony overlooking Avenida de Mayo and two communal bathrooms. Although it may have a smaller, cozier feel than some hostels, this adds to the overall excitement of the place. Israeli travelers are known for traveling in packs, especially in South America. After their service in the army, it is common for many Israelis to take long backpacking trips. Casa de Papa acts as a safe and comfortable place for many of these travelers, but holds open arms for everyone else who is interested in having a good time as well. The staff makes a point to promote a lively atmosphere and you'll quickly get the sense that you're a part of one big family at Casa de Papa. Be ready to listen to some music, enjoy great food, have some drinks and go out with some new friends; no one here is a stranger.
